Subject matter and format
There are two categories in this competition. The participant choses the category himself per quilt. The categories are:
Contemporary quilts
These are: (a) quilts that follow the traditions and were made using well-established techniques, blocks, patterns or designs in pleasing color combinations and approaches to
combining the blocks but also (b) quilts in which the basic structural characteristics of a quilt are employed but one that explores design, color, techniques and materials beyond those
used in the traditional discipline.
Art quilts
An art quilt is an original exploration of a concept or idea rather than handing down of a “pattern”. It experiments with textile manipulation, color, texture and/or a diversity of mixed media. An art quilt often pushes quilt world boundaries. The subject and the size of the quilt are completely free. All themes, animals, landscapes, flowers, abstract, minimalistic, everything which is not offensive is allowed. Your quilt can be square, horizontal or vertical, round or rectangular.
